What are the different types of massage?

Your therapist will always review your goals before treatment to help you determine the best option for you, so you don't need to be an expert in the types of massage.

Swedish
An all-over, soothing massage, perfect for anyone who wants full-body relaxation and stress relief. Massage pressure ranges from light to firm.

Deep Tissue
A sometimes intense, therapeutic massage, particularly helpful for relief from chronic pain (even old injuries), improved athletic performance, and faster recovery. Creates a deep state of relaxation.

Prenatal
Eases stress and areas of discomfort women can feel during all three trimesters of pregnancy. Special positioning with pillows ensures mother and baby are well supported and comfortable.

Sports
Targeted massage used to improve athletic mobility, performance, and recovery. Depending on session goals, this can be combined with Swedish or Deep Tissue massage.

Trigger Point
Ideal for those experiencing pain and tension in specific areas. Focuses massage techniques on unbinding connective tissue to encourage healing, increase range of motion and stability, and flushing out toxins.

Corrective Care
Useful for those with chronic muscle imbalance and/or mobility issues, especially related to repetitive motions and poor posture. Techniques are designed to stimulate self-healing in order to restore muscle and tissue health.

Pain Management
A therapeutic massage aimed at helping reduce ongoing pain by relaxing over-tense muscles, relieving pressure on joints, and redirecting pain messages from overstimulated nerve fibers.

Reiki Infused

Ideal for those with very hectic or stressful lives, or experiencing chronic pain. Blends energetic restoration with a grounding physical experience to further release knots and tension in your body.

What is Reiki?

Reiki Healing is a well-known hands-on, natural healing practice that uses the Universal life force energy all around us to help balance the subtle energies within our bodies. Practitioners are trained to act as a conduit or channel for Reiki energy, to enhance a client’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual being. Reiki is used today in clinics and hospitals all over the world to support health, wellness, and transition.  This is known as the Usui System of Reiki Healing.

What should I expect during my Reiki session?
  • 30-Minute “Energy-Balancing Refresher” A quick rejuvenation and balancing of energy designed to help you process, heal, release, and reenergize your day. This mini session is ideal for focus area clearing and balancing, and overall stress relief. It’s the perfect addition to any massage or clinical psychotherapy session.

  • 60- or 90-Minute Sessions: After a brief discussion, your Reiki practitioner will begin by laying their hands on or slightly above your body starting at your head, then along the front of your body, ending at your feet, in a series of hand positions to deliver Reiki energy. Sound or crystal healing can be added to 90-minutes sessions.

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

During a Reiki treatment, you will lay fully clothed on a massage table, covered in a blanket if you choose, listening to soothing music. Your Reiki practitioner will lay their hands on your body, or hold them slightly above your body, in a series of hand positions to deliver Reiki energy. A Reiki treatment generally covers first your hand, then the front of your body, and finishing at your feet.

Reiki tends to feel warm and profoundly relaxing. You may feel the hands of the Reiki practitioner become hot or tingly. Some people describe a floating sensation, others see colors or shapes. You may fall asleep, or experience emotional release. Reiki treatment is unique for each individual who receives it.

The most common results of Reiki treatment include:

  • Perceived reduction in stress

  • Increased relaxation

  • Enhanced sense of balance, centeredness, and calm

What are the benefits of receiving multiple sessions?

Just like any wellness practice, the effects of Reiki are cumulative. One session can work wonders—and repeated, regular Reiki treatments can invite significant improvement. For example: exercising for an hour is good; exercising every day for a month will deliver far greater results. Reiki works similarly—regular sessions support well-being in every way.

Reiki is a complementary medical art that works well both alone and in concert with other treatments, including clinical psychotherapy. Healing is often the result of gentle shifts in awareness, release of emotional patterns, achievement of new understanding, and daily practice. Combining Reiki with clinical psychotherapy can have profound results. Note that Reiki is not a replacement for traditional medical treatment.
